Recognition for security businesses

Security Company Awards: Bronze, Silver & Gold

Our awards recognise security companies that deliver dependable work, exceptional customer service and, at the highest level, genuinely bespoke security solutions. Each award also includes a detailed star rating.

Three award levels. Clear expectations.

Bronze establishes the essential service standard. Silver builds on that foundation with stronger professionalism and care. Gold demands a demonstrably exceptional, collaborative and technically capable approach. Higher levels must also satisfy the requirements of the levels below them.

Bronze Award

Reliable essentials

For businesses that competently provide the fundamentals customers should be able to expect.

  • Install and/or maintain CCTV and security systems competently and safely.
  • Answer customer enquiries and provide a practical way to contact the business.
  • Communicate what services are offered and what customers can expect.
  • Complete agreed work responsibly and address reasonable customer concerns.
  • Demonstrate a baseline of customer satisfaction and dependable service.

Core question: Does the business reliably deliver the service it promises?

Silver Award

Care beyond the basics

For businesses that meet Bronze expectations and consistently go further for customers.

  • Respond to enquiries promptly and professionally, with clear next steps.
  • Listen carefully to the customer's priorities, concerns and constraints.
  • Explain recommendations in accessible language and avoid unnecessary pressure.
  • Show courtesy, punctuality, professionalism and respect for the premises.
  • Take extra steps to ensure customers feel heard, supported and informed.
  • Provide thoughtful follow-up and handle questions or issues constructively.

Core question: Does the business deliver noticeably better customer care?

Gold Award

Exceptional bespoke service

For businesses that meet Bronze and Silver expectations and demonstrate outstanding customisation, accessibility and technical versatility.

Core question: Does the business build an exceptional solution *with* the customer, not merely *for* them?

How the 1–5 star ratings work

Each award tier is accompanied by a score from 1.0 to 5.0 stars, in 0.5-star increments. The tier describes the kind of service and standards achieved; the stars describe how strongly the business performs against the criteria for that tier.

★★★★½

Example: Bronze 4.5 stars

A company that meets Bronze requirements very strongly may receive Bronze 4.5 stars without meeting the additional standards required for Silver. A higher star score does not automatically move a business into the next tier.

Rating guide

1–2 stars: Meets the tier at a basic or inconsistent level.

2.5–3.5 stars: Meets the tier with generally sound performance.

4–4.5 stars: Strong or very strong performance within the tier.

5 stars: Outstanding evidence against that tier's requirements.

Important: A star score is an assessment within an award tier, not a separate certification of hardware safety, legal compliance or industry accreditation. Awards should be based on evidence available at the time of assessment.

Gold: accessibility, contact and website standards

Gold applicants must make it straightforward for customers to find, understand and contact their business. The website should inspire confidence through clarity and credible evidence, not simply visual polish.

Contact and accessibility

  • Provide an accessible UK freephone number for customer enquiries.
  • Offer multiple contact routes, including a telephone number, email address and functional website.
  • Make contact information easy to locate and keep it up to date.
  • Use clear, readable wording and navigation that works on mobile devices.
  • Explain services, coverage and the enquiry process without unnecessary complexity.

Website credibility and discoverability

  • Maintain a professional, secure and easy-to-navigate website.
  • Publish clear explanations of services and what customers can expect.
  • Show credible previous work, including case studies where available and appropriate.
  • Use relevant, good-quality imagery, preferably from the company's own installations where permission allows.
  • Be findable through a search engine using the company's name, with accurate page titles and descriptive content.
  • Make key information easy to read and usable for people with accessibility needs.

Search visibility is assessed for practical discoverability, not a guaranteed Google ranking position. Genuine project images and case studies should respect customer confidentiality and privacy.

Gold: creative solutions and professional-grade CCTV experience

Gold recognition requires more than standard equipment installation. Applicants should be able to think on their feet, mix and match suitable components, revise plans when circumstances change and explain why a less conventional approach is appropriate.

Recognised professional CCTV manufacturers

Applicants must demonstrate practical experience installing, configuring, maintaining or supporting professional-grade CCTV hardware from at least one of these recognised manufacturers or product families:

Experience must be substantiated, for example through project documentation, photographs (with permission), case studies, technical descriptions, relevant training records or a demonstrable walkthrough of completed work. Merely listing a brand on a website is not sufficient.

These brands are examples recognised by Security Safety Reviewer for this award. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement, partnership or certification by the manufacturers. The business must show relevant CCTV-specific experience, not unrelated use of a brand's products.

What exceptional bespoke work looks like

  • Surveying the property and identifying the customer's actual security objectives.
  • Explaining camera sight lines, recording choices, power and network design.
  • Choosing the most appropriate hardware for the problem rather than defaulting to a fixed package.
  • Adapting designs to unusual buildings, operational limits, budgets or existing infrastructure.
  • Considering clean cabling, reduced disruption, maintainability and long-term value.
  • Involving the customer in decisions and accommodating reasonable changes.
  • Providing transparent proposals, justifications and appropriately tailored contractual terms.

How businesses are assessed

We consider the company's service quality, responsiveness, customer experience, supporting documentation and relevant technical capabilities. Evidence may include website information, case studies, communication records, customer feedback and direct experience of the service.

Applying does not guarantee an award or a particular tier or star rating. Assessments should reflect the evidence actually reviewed, and a business may be asked to clarify or substantiate claims before recognition is granted.
